book carving

Prompt: Explain how you developed your design for your book carving. How important was it to have a clear plan before starting? What were the challenges you faced when working on this project? Explain how you overcame them. Discuss your design and how it relates to the book you chose (if that was the case, if not just discuss design). Did you take any risks? How and why? Describe how you felt about the overall project and if you felt it was successful.

I developed my design by just thinking of things I love, which are jungle animals and palm trees. I decided I wanted to combine them into one piece. Having a clear plan before I started was very important so my book carving would come together as one piece once I was finished. Challenges I faced was the tedious amount of work it took to carve out very intricate pieces. I overcame them by working slow and using a steady hand. I created a jungle scene with a giraffe, elephant, and a palm tree. I love how my project turned out because it is simple, yet interesting at the same time.

mixed media

1. How did you show amusement and variety in your piece? Explain your choice of subject matter and how you created a unified piece of art.

I chose to do colorful elephants. I think elephants are very playful and amusing, their trunks are whimsical and they have beautiful tusk. I chose to draw 2 elephants and added words and expressions to unify the piece.

2. Describe your experience with using mixed media. What mixed media did you use for your piece?

I used photo transfer, as well as tissue paper. I had some troubles with photo transfer because sometimes the photos wouldn't stick or they would peel off, but over all it turned out great.

3. What role did our lessons on visual journaling play in the success of your piece? Explain.

Visual journaling helped me bring my piece together and give me inspiration for my piece.

4. Discuss any challenges you experienced and how you overcame obstacles.

I had some challenges with photo transfer because sometimes the photo wouldn't stick or would peel off, but other than that my project turned out great.
